Work Harder & Smarter via Self-Innovation (Casey @ the BAT)

   (★★★★★)

Casey E. Williams is known as the "Innovation Draftsman."  He wants to help you have a great life and succeed in your long-term goals.  Catch the hot new strategies found in his book The Codes of Self Innovation.

Did you read the book version of Forrest Gump by Winston Groom which was originally published in 1986?  Just like Malcolm X or A Beautiful Mind, it is often the case that the book and the movie have significant differences.  In the book, Forrest is an astronaut, wrestler, Blues harmonica artist, chess champion and orangutan handler among other avocations:

In like manner, Casey has had a wide range of work experiences including racecars, racehorses, cabinet draftsman and  Production Assistant for The Runners (2020):

Casey Williams is ahead of the curve on a critical issue regarding origins:

Everyone likes to say Plato and many others were incredibly wise, yet they have abandoned their belief in Biological Essentialism.  Biological Essentialism states that biology exists within certain types and kinds, and moving categories is impossible.  We can see that dogs, wolves, and coyotes have a common  ancestry and are the same type, but to say that a dog can become a fish [or vice versa] is clearly ludicrous ... (p. 31).

Oxford University Press has a book coming out later this year on the same topic:

Mr. Williams gives the non-theists something to chew on.  We know from the wonders of Creation and our sense of right and wrong, as detailed in the first two chapters of Romans, that there must be a Great Designer and a Righteous Lawgiver.  I knew Casey and I had something in common, Casey likes 21 Pilots too.  Indeed, we should all repeat their refrain to the Lord: "Can you save my heavy dirty soul?"

Casey tells us to use our social network - we know people who know other people, some who may give us a job, become a mentor or help in other ways.  This idea relates to "Six Degrees of Separation" in that we are connected with some real earth-shakers in just a few steps.  For example, John F. Kennedy (Crisis) - George Wallace (Mike Wallace is Here) - Marilyn Monroe (The Misfits) -  Eli Wallach (Mystic River) - Kevin Bacon:

I was happy to see that he quoted that famous verse with the word ποίημα (workmanship) from the second chapter of Ephesians.  The last chapter is "HAGL with Casey." HAGL = Have A Great Life and I have no haggle with that.  "Casey at the BAT" was my suggestion ... BAT = Believe Absolute Truth (the Bible).  Mr. Williams defends Scripture throughout his book and references esteemed Christian authors such as CS Lewis, Doug Wilson, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, Zig Ziglar as well as the Westminster Divines.

I highly recommend the this superb motivational and autobiographical work.

Could Adam Write? (Mark of Cain)

Were Adam and Eve capable of writing as soon as they were created?  Could they read the mark of Cain?  First, keep in mind that Adam was made perfect and was very intelligent.  He named all the “beasts of the field” and birds in one day (Gen. 2:19)!  This involves natural kinds or Essential Types of Life (ETL's).  This is quite unlike the modern “species” concept - it is a much broader category.   In the words of folk poet Bob Dylan (81 yo), “Man gave names to all the animals, in the beginning, long time ago” from the album Slow Train Coming.

We read in Genesis 5:1, “This is the written account of Adam’s line.”  Who better than Adam, who lived 930 years, to compile the earth’s primeval history - he was an eyewitness!  The New Testament explicitly states that Moses wrote the last four books of the Pentateuch, but not Genesis.  Maybe Moses edited Genesis from previously existing sources.

What was the mark of Cain?  Cain slew Abel, so he was a marked man.  God protected Cain by putting a mark on him (Gen. 4:15).  God told Cain that if anyone harms him then the attacker will suffer “seven times over” (cf. Gen. 4:24).   It seems this was the basic message of the mark which would reasonably have been put on his forehead (cf. Ez. 9:4).  A tattoo on his shoulder would not have been seen before a spear pierced his heart.  Try to put this message in symbols!  My attempt is XC=>OX7x (kill Cain implies God, the circle means infinity, kills you seven times).  Thus, the children of Eve were able to read the mark God put on Cain.

Writing does not take thousands of years to develop.  Sequoyah (d. 1843), who could neither read nor write in English, developed the Cherokee syllabary in four years![1]  These include H=“mi” and A=“go.”  Writing in the ancient world was quite widespread.  The Native Americans of Alaska had a kind of “picture writing.”[2]  A horizontal line with two slants above and two below represent a boat with two people and two oars.

The Mayan alphabet contains 27 symbols and was made known to the Western world in the 1500‘s.[3]  This system was not deciphered until the 1950’s through the work of Yuri Knorosov and others.[4]  This just shows how advanced the ancients were since it took so long to unravel it!  Some letters require more than one symbol.  This may be analogous to the fact that we use two letters for the “th” sound but in Greek one letter is used (Θ, theta).

A discovery at Blombos Cave, 200 miles east of Cape Town, South Africa showed a culture that used symbolic marks.[5]  They also found ocher, probably used for body paint.  What is amazing is that this site is dated at 73,000 years old!  We do not accept this date, but wish to emphasize that early cultures used writing.

The origin of writing began with Adam.  Eve and Adam could write!  Adam was indeed literate.  The history of writing starts with the mark of Cain.  The first literacy program was God given.
