Carruthers has an M.S. in Geology and worked for the American Museum of
Natural History in New York. Clinton has
a Doctorate in English and lives in New Jersey.
This tome came from Franklin Watts which is a division of
Scholastic. The folks @ Scholastic do

significantly more profound than the film):

There is a growing
geomythology trend connecting ethnic traditions and actual geologic
events. A number of accounts of
geological events (eruptions, earthquakes etc.) may be found in various myths
throughout the world. There is even an
entire book on the subject published by the Geological Society of London.

Nathan Jeanson (Ph.D. Cell
Biology – Harvard) has demonstrated in his book TRACED that cultural
traditions and genetics supports the “Genesis 5-11” chronology (humanity is
just thousands of years old). If
Mainstream (Legacy) Science is wrong about the Age of Man, then maybe they’re
off on dating the Earth too.

The sages of old had some odd
geological theories. Aristotle held that
subterranean winds fan the flames of underground fires. These violent winds in compressed spaces produce shockwaves (EQ’s) and occasionally this
inferno bursts forth in a fiery explosion (volcanism).
Now we go back to Pioneers
of Geology. On pages 13-16
Carruthers details Hutton’s interest in granite. It has long been assumed that granites take
millions of years to form, but Dr. Tas Walker provides a corrective:
So how long does it take for magma to ascend 20 km in the
crust? With typical magma and crust properties it could be anywhere between
five hours and three months. Clemens says [ in a paper from the Proceedings
of the Geologists’ Association in 2005]:
“Such rapid ascent rates are clearly negligible on the
scale of geological time. This would make granitic magma ascent effectively an
instantaneous process …”
What sort of time would it take to build a huge pluton?
According to Clemens, a dyke 3 m wide and 1 km long … could build a batholith
of 1,000 km^3 in 1,200 years.

This timescale could even be
shortened with variations in dyke dimensions, magma viscosity and fluid content. During ascent magma viscosity can go lower
(due to resorption). Thus, rising magmas
can potentially accelerate rather than slow down!
On page 16, Carruthers claims

Snelling (Earth’s Catastrophic Past) sought permission to collect 53

Hutton claimed that the layers
on the ocean bottom today will become the sedimentary rocks of tomorrow:
We are led to conclude that all the strata of the earth
have had their origin at the bottom of sea by collection of sand and gravel, of
shells, and of earths and clays… consolidating those collections in various
degrees and either elevating those consolidated masses or lowering the level of
that sea.

truly young? The ocean floor in many
places is covered with Manganese (Mn) nodules which are somewhat like pearls
and grow from small bits of basalt, pumice, shark teeth or clay. The measured growth rates of these nodules
indicate an age of only thousands of years.

Hutton did not live long
enough to see the Turbidite Revolution.
