Biological Essentialism - It's What's for Dinner

What is the opposite of evolution?  It's biological essentialism - this is the view that crabs have always been crabby and frogs have always been froggy and that they do not have a common ancestor.  That is, Essential Types of Life (ETL's) vary within limits.  A mutation in myostatin causes some cattle to have uncontrolled muscle growth.  BYG = Buffalo, Yaks and Gayal.  Thus, we see a wide variety in cattle, but they all compose just one ETL.  Is Big Science wrong on origins?

Have you ever dreamt that you evolved into a more advanced creature than a human?  That's the only place where you might see evolution in the sense of "mega-evolution" (e.g. reptile-to-bird) ... in your dreams.  Can monkeys run the circus?

David Gelernter (b. 1955), Computer Science Prof at Yale, is brave enough to question Darwin:

Darwinian evolution is a brilliant and beautiful scientific theory. Once it was a daring guess. Today it is basic to the credo that defines the modern worldview. Accepting the theory as settled truth - no more subject to debate than the earth being round or the sky blue or force being mass times acceleration - certifies that you are devoutly orthodox in your scientific views; which in turn is an essential first step towards being taken seriously in any part of modern intellectual life.  But what if Darwin was wrong?

Peter Robinson (UncommonKnowledge) interviewed Gelernter.  David Berlinski, who supports biological essentialism, was also part of the discussion.  Berlinski's pro-ETL stance is clearly seen in his latest book HumanNature.

Now, biological essentialism naturally leads to Young Earth Theory Intelligence (YETI).  That is, there never was an "age of fishes" or "age of dinos" since all basic forms of life existed at the beginning.  This implies that most of the rock deposits were part of a single cataclysmic event which in turn requires a massively condensed timescale.

Have mainstream journals published research that favors a youthful world?  YES! ... check out my blog from October 2020.  In addition, the Philosophical Society of Great Britain (Victoria Institute) published a paper by Dudley Joseph Whitney providing evidence for a young earth in 1933.  Interestingly, in one episode of Doctor Who, Queen Victoria starts an institute (Torchwood).

What are the fruits of Darwinism?  Lenin, the Third Reich and Mao’s Great Leap Forward (~40M deaths) among other tragedies.  Ideas have consequences.  In contrast, Lord Kelvin, who rejected Darwin, said this: "The more thoroughly I conduct scientific research, the more I believe science excludes atheism.  If you think strongly enough you will be forced by science to the belief in God, which is the foundation of all religion"

In Case You Missed It - YES means "Yes"

A recent study on a Pre-Cambrian organism sheds a bright light on the age-of-the-earth debate:

Russian doctoral student Ilya Bobrovskiy and a research team of Professor Jochen Brocks from the Australian National University carefully collected organically preserved specimens of Dickinsonia from steep cliffs of the 558-million-year-old White Sea area of Russia.  From the thin layers of organic material on these specimens the scientists could extract biomarkers that specify the type and amount of steroid lipids that were present in Dickinsonia. ... they found a very high amount (85-93 percent) of C27 cholesteroids, which is considered to be a hallmark of animal cells.

Hold the phones!  I thought organics don't last M's of years?? [1]  Let's go with the evidence and question the dating method.

Research published this year detailed the discovery of a 210M year old pterosaur found in Utah.  This puts the oldest pterosaur 65M years before the prior estimate.  If all Essential Type of Life (ETL's) existed at the same time this is exactly what we would expect - it's called range extension. [2]  Chapter 3 of our book YES - Young Earth Science explains ETL's.

A paper published earlier this year in Nature disclosed findings about a 240M year old lizard.  That's 75M years older than what was previously thought.  Another range extension!

Apparently, these scientists have not read YES - Young Earth Science to discover the powerful evidence from history, philosophy, biology, geology and physics for a youthful world.

YES WorldWide Turns the Tide

International attitudes on the age of the earth often lean toward Young Earth Science (YES).  An omnicultural approach which not only looks at geology, but also history and cultural traditions of catastrophe, is the best approach to answer the age question (Gilgamesh, Atlantis etc.).

In a survey of 33 Korean Biology teachers, only 48.5% agreed with the statement, “Modern humans are the product of evolutionary processes that have occurred over millions of years.”  Notice that this not only touches on Darwinism, but also the age of the Earth.  A significant number of these teachers (21.2%) agreed with the statement, “Organisms exist today in essentially the same form is which they always have.”  This apparently favors the stasis of Essential Types of Life (ETL’s). That is, rabbits make rabbits and snakes make snakes, which is consistent with YES.  Furthermore, more than 40% hold that “Much of the scientific community doubts if evolution occurs.”  One wonders if this was in reference specifically to the Korean scientific community. [1]  If you have more info on this please leave a comment.

In Turkey nearly 75% of students reject evolution.  Even Turkish pre-service biology teachers had a MATE (Measure of Acceptance of the Theory of Evolution) score of just 64% which is quite low compared to most countries.  If YES is right, then Darwin can’t rule the day. [2]

A 2007 survey of 1600 Russians yielded a key result:  30% agree with the statement, “[The] first human beings were living in the same era as dinosaurs.”  A 2005 poll of the same question for the European Union had 29% agreeing with man-dino coexistence!  Surely, humans and dinosaurs together at the same time is consistent with YES.  In a 2010 opinion poll, only 26% of Russians labeled themselves as evolutionists‼  In contrast, 64% of Chinese self-identify as evolutionists. [3]  Both countries have a long history of Communist indoctrination on Darwinism.

Let's move from Russia and China to the Middle East.  Israel carries high democratic ideals and generally has a high tolerance for minority views.  Consider former chief scientist with Israel’s Education Ministry, Dr. Gavriel Avital, who challenged evolution:

If textbooks state explicitly that human beings' origins are to be found with monkeys, I would want students to pursue and grapple with other opinions. There are many people who don't believe the evolutionary account is correct. … There are those for whom evolution is a religion and are unwilling to hear about anything else.

Avital was removed from his post because of his controversial views.  If YES is True, then evolution is False.  We have zeroed in on just four countries, but if we expand our view we find that omniculturalism supports YES.  Although the Mayans were off in supposedly predicting a world changing event in 2012, they hold to a start date of 3114 BC.  Thus, the world may be only thousands of years old (NOT billions).
