Old Yeller and Dating Methods

In 2016, a mummified wolf pup named Zhùr was discovered in the permafrost in the Klondike goldfields near Dawson City, Yukon, Canada.  

Researchers used DNA analysis and radiocarbon dating to determine that the specimen is around 57,000 years old … but is that really true?  David Coppedge (NASA, JPL, Cassini team) rightly questions this old earth fallacy (#OEF):

 

But how could its mother dig a den in permafrost?  If it was not permafrost at the time, how did this warm-blooded mammal become frozen so quickly, and stay frozen for 57,000 years?  It looks just like the other puppy from Siberia that they say was a third of this one’s age.  Is something wrong with the dating methods?

 

Carbon dating have been supported by tree ring data, but even that type of corroboration has limits.  Martha Joukowsky in A Complete Manual of Field Archeology stated that, "Since the dendrochronological sequence extends back only as far as about 5500 B.C., no way exists at present to check radiocarbon dates from 5500 to 10,000 B.C." [1]

 

Such excellent preservation of “Old Yeller” (Zhùr) for 50K+ years seems unreal on the face of it.  In comparison, consider the preservation of Egyptian mummies which are but a few thousand years old.  We have provided evidence that the Ice Age occurred within historical times in Is a Young Earth Possible?  We also make the argument that there was only one Ice Age in YES – Young Earth Science.

What is the Age of Your Sample?

Suppose you found a piece of charred wood that was buried 100 feet deep.  Now you want to date it at a radiocarbon lab.  Could your sample be a thousand years old?  Maybe ten times that!

The most advanced method to obtain radiocarbon dates is AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry).  If this really gives an absolute age why do I need to answer the question "what is the age of your sample?" on the submission form?   

The Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit (UK) have this in the instructions for their sample submission form: "Period (required) - indication of likely age of the sample: e.g. Bronze Age, Paleolithic, Holocene etc."  If ¹⁴C dating gives the exact time when the specimen died, why ask?

Stuart Pocock (Clinical Trials) said that, "randomized controlled trials are an  essential tool for testing the efficacy of therapeutic innovations." [1]  Why don't we apply the same standard to radiometric dating?

Philosophy professor Alex Bird (Univ. of Bristol) explains the "double blind" procedure**:

... neither the patient not the clinician knows whether the patient is receiving the treatment.  This is often done in conjunction with the use of a placebo, which is a harmless substitute equivalent in appearance to the treatment. [2]

What if we dated samples (even dino fossils) using the double-blind method?  Mark Armitage has made a riotous LOL video on this topic (worthy of SNL).  Armitage sent shockwaves through establishment academia when he found soft tissue in dino remains and later lost his job‼  In February 2013, he published his astonishing research in Acta Histochemica, a mainstream journal on cells and tissue.  Two weeks later, he was fired from California State University - Northridge where he managed the biology department’s electron microscopy.  He was apparently let go because of his young earth views.

Weasels, Woody and YES

Don’t let Old Earth Fallacies (OEF’s) make a weasel out of you.  Be wise like Woody and seek the truth!  A woodpecker has an amazing tongue – could this have formed "by the accumulation of innumerable slight variations" (Darwin)? 

Did your grandparents use coal to heat their home?  If we date coal using radiometric dating methods, do we get millions of years?  Or, do we obtain a date of thousands of years?  YES‼

Go to your nearest coal mine and have a sample dated.  I predict that the coal will yield a date of less than 50K years.  Coal supports Young Earth Science (YES).

It does not take a rocket scientist to avoid OEF’s, just read YES – Young Earth Science to see the evidence.
