Have you ever studied Noah's Flood?

You may have seen the documentary Noah's Ark - The Real Story with Jeremy Bowen from 2004.

https://youtu.be/fjBv29FUiv8

Jeremy Francis John Bowen (b. 1960) is a Welsh journalist who was born in Cardiff.  His presentation was very slanted against the truth of Noah's Flood.[1]  He should take a trip to the Ark Encounter in Kentucky (Ozzy did).

https://arkencounter.com

Bowen's story mentions the ocean floor (@ 10:40):

https://youtu.be/fjBv29FUiv8

The ocean floor in many places is covered with Manganese (Mn) nodules which are somewhat like pearls and grow from small bits of basalt, pumice, shark teeth or clay.  The measured growth rates of these nodules indicate an age of only thousands of years.[2]  So, the oceans as we see them today are young.

Bowen seems to completely overlook the fact that the Lord brought the animals to Noah via instinct, Providence or direct miracle (cf. Gen. 6:20; 7:8,9,15).

https://www.icr.org/article/how-did-noah-gather-animals

The program claims that 30M species must have been on the Ark.  The *kinds* of animals and plants we find on Earth is a much broader category than Species and is often at the Family level.  I tag the Genesis Kinds (baramin) as Essential Types of Life (ETL's).  My book Biological Essentialism takes on that very subject.

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w?ean=9781668541234

With this understanding that Kinds (ETL's) are not always equivalent to "specie," how many animals were on Noah's Ark?  Some estimates range from 6,744 animals to 16K.

https://arkencounter.com/animals/how-many/

https://answersingenesis.org/noahs-ark/species-and-kinds-and-the-ark/

Noah's Ark - The Real Story claims that there is not enough water to cover the planet.  In contrast, let's ask Marilyn vos Savant (born in St. Louis) who has been the Guinness Book of World Records record holder for the highest IQ.  She said that, "If the Earth were smooth, all the land would be covered with seawater to a depth of about 8,810 feet ..."  In addition, Mars may have had a global deluge to a depth of a kilometer.[3]

David V. Jebson lists seven key reasons why the Deluge must have been universal:

https://www.biblicalcreation.org.uk/biblical_studies/bcs044.html

A number of scholars have gone deep in their research on Flood Legends.

My copy of Folklore in the Old Testament by Sir James Frazer (d. 1941) is over 100 years old!  It has 65 pages of Flood traditions.  He admits that academics of the past concluded from this historical evidence,

... that such a catastrophe actually occurred, that we have a full and authentic record of it in the Book of Genesis, and that the many legends of a great flood which we find scattered so widely among mankind embody the more or less imperfect, confused, and distorted reminiscences of that tremendous cataclysm.[4]

Explorer and Painter George Catlin (d. 1872) shared this bold revelation:

The calamity which their [Flood] traditions say once befell them, destroying the whole human race, excepting one man, who landed from his canoe on a high mountain in the West. This tradition, however, was not peculiar to the Mandan tribe, for amongst one hundred and twenty different tribes that I have visited in North and South and Central America, not a tribe exists that has not related to me distinct or vague traditions of such a calamity, in which one, or three, or eight persons were saved above the waters.

https://creationism.org/books/FrazerFolkloreOT/FrazerFolkloreOT_0.htm

Wilhelm Wundt (d. 1920), who grew up as a Lutheran, in his Elements Of Folk Psychology claimed that Egypt has no Flood Legend (p. 392):

https://www.gutenberg.org/files/44138/44138-h/44138-h.htm#THE_ART_OF_THE_HEROIC_AGE

In truth, he was sadly mistaken and the saga continues ... deluge sagas (Sintflutsagen):

One "flood myth" in Egyptian mythology involves the god Ra and his daughter Sekhmet.  Ra sent Sekhmet to destroy part of humanity for their disrespect and unfaithfulness which resulted in the gods overturning wine jugs to simulate a great flood of blood, so that by getting her drunk on the wine and causing her to pass out her slaughter would cease.  This is commemorated in a wine drinking festival during the annual Nile flood.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_flood_myths

What do we make of all these Flood traditions? Dr. Johannes Riem in Die Sintflut in Sage und Wissenschaft (The Deluge in Legend and Science) provided this analysis:

Among all traditions there is none so general, so widespread on earth, and so apt to show what may develop from the same material according to the varying spiritual character of a people as the Flood tradition. Lengthy and thorough discussions with Dr. Kunike have convinced me of the evident correctness of his position that the fact of the Deluge is granted because at the basis of all myths, particularly nature myths, there is a real fact, but that during a subsequent period the material was given its present mythical character and form.[5]

Francis Collins seems to be oblivious to the overwhelming evidence for the Global Flood (2 Pet. 3:5, see below ↓).  You may have seen Francis Collins rocking out @ a recent protest in DC:

Collins founded #BioLogos and in 2017 IVP put out a dialog/discussion style book titled Old-Earth or Evolutionary Creation? ... that is #TheoEvo

Hugh Ross & his #cru provide the other side of the coin in this "debate." Ross began his career at the age of 7 when he went to the Library to discover why stars are hot! ✳✺

It's a real tragedy that Old-Earth or Evolutionary Creation? gives so little attention to the Biblical, Historical and scientific evidence for the Global Flood.

The bibliography does include Henry Morris' The Long War Against God: The History and Impact of the Creation/Evolution Conflict (Fwd. by David Jeremiah!). It also has Kurt Wise' fine defense of the reality of Noah's Flood: Faith Form & Time.

Ovid's version of the Flood (@ 5:23):

The Babylonian account of Atrahasis (Noah) states that the Ark was a kuphar (kuffah, quffa), which was a large round boat.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuphar#Biblical_significance

Such a vessel would not be seaworthy.  This shows that superiority of the Genesis record compared to the Flood Legends of the Ancient Near East.

The Epic of Gilgamesh states that the Ark was a cube!

I want you to recall both the predictions foretold by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles.  Above all, understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urges and saying, “Where is his promised return?  For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.”  For they deliberately suppress this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by means of water.  Through these things the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water.  But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, by being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. (2 Peter 3:2-7, NET)

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; ... then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment. (2 Pet. 2:4,5,9)

The Dangers of Middle School and a Youthful World

The Dangers of Middle School include bullying, assault, no school choice (in many areas) and getting brainwashed in Old Earth Fallacies (OEF's).

When I was still in grade school I would read Time-Life science books and I took the millions of years at face value.  Sadly, public schools only lean one way:

#MOYA ==> Millions Of Years Ago

#BOYA ==> Billions Of Years Ago

#TOYA ==> Trillions Of Years Ago anyone?

Since the Corona Crisis, many parents have chosen homeschooling and Christian Schools.  School Choice is boss'n' for real.  Check out John Stossel's well reasoned essay for learning freedom.  Stossel came out with No, They Can't: Why Government Fails - But Individuals Succeed in 2012.

The anti-YoungEarth propaganda is almost complete.  I perused dozens of alternatives to Google and hardly found any that were sympathetic to Young Earth Science (#YES).  Try this search and see what you get:

   "young earth movement" growing.

If you find a search engine sympathetic to YETI (Young Earth Theory Intelligence) let me know:

  DeepTimeSkeptic@protonmail.com

Remarkably, the Tulsa World had a story on Young Earthers a few years ago.

Flood legends from around the globe are strong evidence of a worldwide cataclysm not that long ago.  A global catastrophe just thousands of years ago and the young earth concept go hand-in-hand.  Catastrophism implies that most of the rock record (e.g. Grand Canyon) was formed rapidly.  Miao, mountain people of China and Southeast Asia, speak the languages of the Hmong-Mien (Miao-Yao) family.  Here is their tale:

So the earth began filling with tribes and with families. Creation was shared by the clans and the peoples. These did not God's will nor returned His affection. But fought with each other defying the Godhead. Their leaders shook fists in the face of the Mighty. Then the earth was convulsed to the depth of three strata. Rending the air to the uttermost heaven ... His wrath flaring up filled His eyes and His face. Until He must come and demolish humanity. Come and destroy a whole world full of people. So it poured forty days in sheets and in torrents. Then fifty-five days of misting and drizzle. The waters surmounted the mountains and ranges. The deluge ascending leapt valley and hollow. An earth with no earth upon which to take refuge! ... But the Patriarch Nuah was righteous. The Matriarch Gaw Bo-lu-en upright. Built a boat very wide. Made a ship very vast. Their household entire got aboard and were floated, The family complete rode the deluge in safety. The animals with him were female and male. The birds went along and were mated in pairs. When the time was fulfilled, God commanded the waters. The day had arrived, the flood waters receded. ... [after a number of generations] God struck at them then, changed their language and accent. Descending in wrath, He confused tones and voices. One's speech to the others who hear him has no meaning; He's speaking in words, but they can't understand him. So the city they built was never completed; The tower they wrought has to stand thus unfinished. In despair then they separate under all heaven, They part from each other the globe to encircle. They arrive at six corners and speak the six languages. [1]

Tonal languages include Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Lao, Hmong, Punjabi,  Yorùbá, Igbo, Ewe, and Cherokee.  Note that the Miao teach that our planet is a sphere with the phrase "globe to encircle."

The Epic of Gilgamesh is a famous Deluge story.  Gilgamesh was the fifth king of Uruk (Iraq) which some date to around 2500 BC.  There is good evidence for his historicity and Archeologists claim to have discovered his tomb in 2003. [2]  Here is an account even earlier than the Gilgamesh tale.  It is known as the Nippur Tablet (CBM 13532):

[the confines of heaven and earth] I will loosen ... [a deluge I will make, and] it shall sweep away all men together ... [but thou seek l]ife before the deluge comes forth ... [For over all living beings], as many as there are, I will bring overthrow, destruction, annihilation ... build a great ship ... total height shall be its structure ... it shall be a house-boat carrying what has been saved of life ... with a strong deck cover [it] ... [the ship] which you shall make ... [into it br]ing the beasts of the field, the birds of heaven ...

Nick Liguori has documented 333 tribal accounts of the Flood ... and that's just in North and South America alone!  The Montagnais (Innu) of Canada have a tradition of the Deluge:

God. being angry with the giants, commanded a man to build large canoe. The man did so. and when he had embarked in it. the water rose on all sides, and the canoe with it. till no land was anywhere to be seen. Weary of beholding nothing but a heaving mass of water. the man threw an otter into the flood and the animal dived and brought up a little earth. The man took the earth or mud in his hand and breathed on it, and at once it began to grow. ... As it continued to grow into an island, he desired to know whether it was large enough to support him. Accordingly he placed a reindeer upon it. but the animal soon made the circuit of the island and returned to him, from which he concluded that the island was not yet large enough. So he continued to blow on it till the mountains, the lakes, and the river were formed. Then he disembarked. [3]

Why are the hundreds of flood legends global?  Charles Martin explains:

The story of the Deluge - or the Global Flood of Noah - permeates nearly every culture in the world in some way, shape, or form. While details vary between the different cultures, the same basic elements, occur in all versions. ... the different versions all refer to the same event - passed on from generation to generation, through various developing cultures. Through these legends, this epic event has remained woven into the tapestry of cultural history - sharing not just the story of survival, but the power of obedience, and the fulfillment of God's enduring promise.

The Choctaw Connection

Have you read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee?  Are you familiar with the Trail of Tears?  In the early 1830's, around 125K Native Americans were forced to flee their homelands in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and Florida and travel to Oklahoma (Indian Territory).  Many died along the way.  The Choctaw, along with a number of other Native American tribes, have tales of a Great Flood that occurred just thousands of years ago.  A poem I wrote is based on the Choctaw tale.  I highlight a number of Flood Legends in my latest book Is a Young Earth Possible? and include the Choctaw version. [1]

Sir James Frazer (d. 1941) was an anthropologist, folklorist and classical scholar.  His lengthy work The Golden Bough: A Study in Comparative Religion compares aboriginal traditions from around the world.  I saw a pristine set at a bookstore in Las Vegas a few years ago (Bauman Rare Books).  A used set may run you around $500.  Regarding the origin of such disaster stories, Frazer rightly admits that,

The old answer to the question was that such a catastrophe actually occurred, that we have a full and authentic record of it in the Book of Genesis, and that the many legends of a great flood which we find scattered so widely among mankind embody the more or less imperfect, confused, and distorted reminiscences of that tremendous cataclysm. [2]

Vine Deloria (d. 2005) was a Native American historian and activist from the Yankton Sioux tribe of South Dakota.  He wrote dozens of books and hundreds of articles and testified before Congress and even the U.S. Supreme Court.  Many geologists hold that a giant rock hit the earth and killed off the dinos.  Could such an event explain great catastrophe of the past?  Deloria explains:

But suppose that a major fly-by had occurred within the time period of interest to these scholars, raising the Cascades and Andes, shifting the Alps eastward and tilting them, or creating the Himalayas?  Much of what we regard as geological knowledge would have to be radically revised in favor of a drastically shortened chronology of Earth history. ... Traditional stories about the world ending with massive floods and fires are not taken seriously because we have been taught to believe that no forces more powerful than those we can presently observe have ever been active on the planet. [3]

Deloria challenged the reliability of radiometric dating and Deep Time. [4]  We defend Catastrophism in our two most recent works YES - Young Earth Science and Is a Young EarthPossible?  Check out this cool pro-YES t-shirt.

Here we see Choctaw Chief Pushmataha (d. 1824, Wash. DC), who is considered by many as the greatest of all Choctaw chiefs.  He fought in the War of 1812 and rests in the Congressional Cemetery (Wash. DC).  I am a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

New York Times, Catastrophism, Essentialism & SERGA

In the Cambrian Explosion, most of the major types of life appear suddenly in the fossil record.  This fact is widely known, but what is often over looked is that there is a global unconformity at this point indicating a tremendous erosional event.

Writing in the New York Times a few years ago, Carl Zimmer made this comment:

It took a global flood to tap that capacity [to trigger evolution] ... Shanan Peters of the University of Wisconsin and Robert Gaines of Pomona College ... offered evidence that the Cambrian Explosion was preceded by a rise in sea level that submerged vast swaths of land, eroding the drowned rocks.

Rather than instigate rapid evolution, we propose that this global flood was the beginning of a Singular Epoch of Rapid Geologic Activity (SERGA) that explains the bulk of the Earth's vast sediments.  Cultures from around the world have traditions of this event.

How can the general order of the fossils be explained if we base our new discoveries on this assumption (SERGA)?  In a worldwide watery disaster sea life would buried first then land animals, bird tracks then birds - just as we do find.  If essential types of life remain static throughout geologic time, then the fossil sequence does not prove Darwinism, but indicates changing conditions during a great flood.  Likewise, once we accept the stasis of Essential Types of Life (ETL's), the most reasonable option is to reject evolution and the mainstream geologic timescale.
Louis Agassiz was professor of Natural History at University of Neuchâtel and is best known as the "Father of the Ice Age."  In 1874, the Atlantic Monthly posthumously published his paper on "Evolution and Permanence of Type."  Agassiz was right about Darwin:

Darwin has placed the subject [of evolution] on a different basis from that of all his predecessors, and has brought to the discussion a vast amount of well-arranged information, a convincing cogency of argument ...  Indeed it might be said that he treated his subject according to the best scientific methods, had he not frequently overstepped the boundaries of actual knowledge and allowed his imagination to supply the links which science does not furnish.

Agassiz argued that the fossil record says "NO Evolution NO!" ...

As a palaeontologist I have from the beginning stood aloof from this new theory of transmutation [evolution], now so widely admitted in the scientific world.  Its doctrines, in fact, contradict what the animal forms buried in the rocky strata of our earth tell us ...

YES Virginia, there is evidence for a global flood, a youthful planet and demonstrating the flaws of Darwinism.  Our book YES - Young Earth Science provides ample info from science and history to point to a young earth.  Please visit TotalYouth.us for the latest YES (Young Earth Science) podcast and follow us on social media and YouTube.
